Fixed Price
One price for the finished piece, with no separate metal, labour and tax lines. Standard for pearl and fashion jewellery.
A fixed price bundles material, craft and margin into a single figure that does not move with the gold rate.
It suits jewellery where the value is in design, stringing and matching rather than in meltable metal, which is exactly the case for pearls.
It is also simply easier to compare across sellers, since there is nothing hidden in a wastage percentage.
When you are buying
With pearls, judge a fixed price on lustre, matching, nacre and the quality of the stringing and clasp. Those are what you are paying for, and none of them are on any weight scale.
Per Gram Pricing
Pricing a piece on what it weighs, at the day's rate for its purity, plus labour. The traditional gold model.
Making Charges
What you pay for craftsmanship on top of the metal, charged either per gram or as a percentage.
Lustre
How sharply a pearl reflects light. The single most important quality factor, and the one you can judge without any training.
Matching
How consistently the pearls within one piece agree on size, colour, lustre and shape. A grading factor in its own right.
