Semi-Round
ShapesAlso called semi round, near round, semi-spherical
Very slightly out of true: round to the eye, measurably not. The best value in the whole shape range.
A semi-round pearl is spherical enough that you would call it round in conversation, but it rolls with a faint wobble and measures marginally longer on one axis.
Once strung and knotted, and once the strand is worn against skin rather than laid flat on velvet, that difference is close to invisible.
It is by some distance the most common shape in freshwater production, which is why it anchors most of the market.

This is where the sensible money goes. You give up a technical grade nobody can see on the neck and keep a large part of the price.
