Aquamarine
The pale blue variety of beryl, the same mineral family as emerald. Usually clean and untroubled.
Where emerald is heavily included, aquamarine is typically eye clean, because it forms in calmer conditions.
Colour ranges from near colourless to a distinct sea blue, and deeper stones command a large premium.
Most commercial material is heated to remove a greenish cast, which is standard and permanent.
