Pure Pearls Glossary
Choker Length
A necklace of about 14 to 16 inches, sitting snugly at the base of the throat.
A choker sits above the collarbone and follows the neck rather than the chest. It is the most formal of the classic lengths.
Because it sits high, it suits open and boat necklines and clashes with high collars.
In Indian jewellery the choker is also a distinct traditional form, worn as the upper piece of a layered set with a longer necklace beneath it.
When you are buying
Measure before you buy. Necks vary far more than people assume, and a 15-inch choker is comfortable on one person and tight on the next. If in doubt, size up and choose an adjustable extension.

Princess Length
About 17 to 19 inches, resting just below the collarbone. The default necklace length, and the safest gift.
Collar Length
The shortest classic length, around 12 to 13 inches, worn tight against the middle of the neck.
Matinee Length
Roughly 20 to 24 inches, falling on the chest. Reads as daywear rather than evening formality.
Choker
A necklace that sits high and close around the neck. Both a length and, in Indian jewellery, a distinct style.
