Coin
A flat, round disc. Large surface area for the weight, so it makes bold pieces that stay light.
Coin pearls are tissue-nucleated freshwater pearls grown deliberately flat, often reaching 12mm to 20mm across while staying only a few millimetres thick.
Drilled through the edge they lie flat against the skin; drilled through the face they spin and flash.
The broad flat surface shows lustre and orient better than any other shape, because there is more uninterrupted nacre to look at.
