Jhalar

Jewellery StylesAlso called jhaalar, fringe, pearl fringe

A hanging fringe along the lower edge of a piece, usually of small pearls or drops.

Jhalar simply means fringe. It is the row of drops beneath a choker, a jhumka rim or a chandbali crescent.

The fringe does the moving in an otherwise static piece, which is why it appears wherever a design needs life.

Depth and spacing decide how it reads: dense and short looks formal, long and sparse looks fluid.

When you are buying

Check every drop hangs freely and none are tangled or fused. A fringe that does not move is doing none of its work.
