Jhumka
A bell or dome-shaped earring, usually fringed with pearls or beads around the rim. The most recognisable Indian earring form.
A jhumka hangs from a stud or hook and flares into an inverted dome. The rim carries a fringe of small pearls or drops that swing as the wearer moves.
The form runs from tiny everyday jhumkis to chandelier-scale bridal pieces with several tiers of fringe.
Pearl jhumkas usually pair a metal dome with seed or rice pearl fringing, so the weight stays manageable while the piece keeps its scale.
When you are buying
Weight is the deciding factor. Try the ear-wire style first: a large jhumka on a thin hook drags the piercing, while the same piece on a screw-back post is comfortable for hours.
