Moon Dasha
The planetary period ruled by the Moon in Vedic astrology, during which a pearl is most commonly prescribed.
In the Vimshottari dasha system, life is divided into planetary periods. The Moon's mahadasha runs ten years.
Pearls are prescribed either to strengthen a weak Moon or to support the wearer through its period, on the advice of an astrologer.
Because prescriptions specify weight in ratti or carat, the pearl is usually bought as a loose stone first and set afterwards.
When you are buying
Get the prescribed weight and metal in writing from your astrologer before shopping. Sourcing a pearl to a specification is straightforward; matching one after the fact often is not.
