Pachi

Jewellery StylesAlso called pachi work, pachi kundan, pacchi

A kundan variant where stones are set into a lac-filled frame, giving a slightly raised, textured surface.

In pachi work the frame is packed with lac, the stones pressed in, and gold foil worked around each one to secure it.

The lac core makes pachi pieces lighter than solid metal work of the same size, which matters in large bridal jewellery.

The finish is a little more rustic than fine kundan, with visible depth between the stones.

When you are buying

Lac softens with heat. Keep pachi pieces out of direct sun and never leave them in a car, or the setting can loosen.
