Bead Cap
A small cupped metal piece that sits over the end of a bead or pearl, hiding the drill hole and adding detail.
Caps are used at the top and bottom of a feature pearl, most often on a pendant or a tassel head.
They serve a structural purpose too, spreading the load where the thread or pin leaves the pearl.
Filigree and granulated caps are common in Indian work, where the cap can carry as much craft as the setting.
When you are buying
A cap should sit flush against the pearl with no gap. A cap that rocks is either the wrong size or masking a chipped drill hole.
Spacer
A small bar with several holes that keeps the rows of a multi-line necklace parallel and untangled.
Bail
The loop connecting a pendant to its chain. Its inner width caps what chain the pendant will fit.
Full-Drilled
A pearl drilled all the way through so thread can pass. How every strand pearl is prepared.
Filigree
Lacework made from fine twisted wire, soldered into openwork patterns. Light for its size.
Tassel
A bunch of threads or beaded strands hanging from a cord end or a pendant. Latkan in the north, kuchu in the south.
