Pure Pearls Glossary
Bail
The loop connecting a pendant to its chain. Its inner width caps what chain the pendant will fit.
A fixed bail is soldered to the pendant. A hinged or clip bail opens, so pendants can be swapped between chains.
The bail carries the entire weight of the pendant at a single point, so it should be visibly heavier than the chain it hangs from.
Measure the bail's inner opening before buying a chain for an existing pendant. This is the most common mismatch in online buying.
