Brooch

A pinned ornament. In Indian wear, most often a saree pin holding the pallu in place at the shoulder.

A saree pin does a job as well as a decorative one: it secures the pleated pallu so it stays on the shoulder.

The pin mechanism is the whole piece. A weak clasp or a blunt pin will snag and pull threads on silk.

Pearl brooches range from a single pearl on a bar pin to elaborate florals with pearl clusters.

When you are buying

Check the pin against the fabric you actually wear. A thick pin is fine on cotton and will leave visible holes in a fine silk.
