Hair Pin
A decorative pin worn in a bun or plait. Juda pin in the north, and part of the jadai set in the south.
A juda pin pushes into a bun and holds by friction, with the ornament sitting on the outside.
South Indian jadai billai are a sequence of plaques pinned down the length of a plait, narrowing towards the end.
Pearl versions cluster small pearls into a floral head, which stays light enough not to drag the hair.
When you are buying
Weight is the constraint. Anything heavy pulls out of a bun within an hour, so pearls and light metal work better here than solid gold.

Brooch

Passa
A fan-shaped head ornament worn at the side of the head, above the ear. Also called a jhoomar.

A head ornament worn along the hair parting, with a pendant resting on the forehead.
