Screw Back
Clasps & ConstructionAlso called screwback, screw post, bharat back
An earring post with a threaded end and a nut that screws on. The most secure earring fastening.
The threaded post takes a matching nut, so the back cannot be pulled off without unscrewing it.
It is standard on Indian gold jewellery precisely because it is the only back that reliably holds a valuable earring.
The threads are fine and can cross if forced. Screw gently and stop at any resistance.
When you are buying
For any earring above a token value, screw backs are worth insisting on. Push backs are the reason single earrings go missing.
