Dori

Clasps & ConstructionAlso called dori cord, adjustable dori, silk cord

A silk or cotton cord closing the back of a necklace, tied rather than clasped, so the length adjusts to the wearer.

A dori replaces the clasp with two cord ends that thread through a slider or simply tie, usually finished with a tassel.

It solves the fit problem completely: one necklace covers several inches of length, which matters most on chokers and heavy bridal pieces.

It is also the traditional finish on kundan, polki and temple jewellery, where a metal clasp would look out of place.

When you are buying

The cord is the part that wears, not the jewellery. Check it can be replaced, and re-tie a heavy piece with a double knot rather than trusting a slider alone.
